Hello Bloggers, my name is Amarya Jones. I am a 19-year-old Sophomore Elementary Education major at Henderson State University. I am originally from here Arkadelphia, AR Home of the Arkadelphia Fighting Badgers!! I always get the same questions asked to me over and over and over again. "How could someone ever live here?" "Why'd you stay at Henderson?" Truth is, I ABSOLUTELY love it here!! Growing up in the small town, has really shaped me into the woman I am today and with the help of our amazing public school system, that is one of the reasons why I wanted to be a teacher.
I wanted to become a teacher because I have always enjoyed children and I knew in my heart that I was called to impact the lives of young children. My mom is a teacher, so I've always grown up in the classroom, imitating her, wanting to be just like her. Teaching is in my blood.
There had also been many teachers who have had an enormous influence and who believed in me when I did not believe in myself. I had someone who was my second "mama" when my real mother couldn't be there. Their influences will never be forgotten, and I hope to one day I can provide that same care and motivation to make sure that all my students know that they can count on me. There has never been doubting in my mind that teaching is the career path that I am willing to pursue my journey here at Henderson State.
I am creating this blog to help inform you guys of the importance that comes with managing different activities while you are in college whether it be from being a student-athlete, working and going to school, or even just joining other organizations on campus that gulp all our time also. I have two jobs and is a full-time student. Working two jobs and going to school is a huge challenge for me when it comes to time management. Organization and time management skills are key to being successful in life.
I enjoy the fact that you are from a small town and are proud of that. I'm also from a small town, and I'm glad that I had those experiences as opposed to living in a big city.
ReplyDeleteI could not agree with your blog more! We are definitely a lot alike. Like you, I grew up in a small town and attended a small school. It's all I know, and I love it. Not knowing every single person in your graduating class is an anomaly to me. Also my mom is a teacher. She teaches sixth grade and the majority of my aunts and uncles are teachers as well. I have often referred to teaching being in my blood just like you did. I'm sure you will be a great teacher and I really enjoyed reading your blog post. I can definitely relate to it!
ReplyDeleteWow !!
ReplyDeleteYour blog was very interesting, I can't believe you didn't want to go to a different city.
You mentioned that your mom was a teacher, following your moms footsteps so sweet !
