Educational Technology Final- Pinterest in the Classroom

This is my final project for my Educational Technology class.

Pinterest is a unique tool that students can use to get creative. This would allow students to use this website to find fun projects and activities that goes with the assignment for that week. For educators, Pinterest can be a great way to collaborate with teachers, parents, and students.

For my assignment, Students will be investigating each of the five senses and related body parts by creating a personal Five Senses Book.

They had to cut out the rectangle and fold it in half.  That first day I asked them to cut the slit only between see and hear, and add an eye under the word see.
Please click on this link to get a copy of the paper I used for the cover, and the text for this book.

Overall, I believe that this assignment was successful and that students should now have an understanding on what each of the 5 senses mean and how they are associated with our body parts.

Picture_145.png

1.) ChartGizmo :.This tool allows you to create charts for websites, blogs, and other social interactions. You may use this tool for visualizing finances, scientific data, test scores, and many other types of raw data. The following diagram types are available: Pie chart, Bar graph, Line graph, Ring chart, 3D Pie chart, 3D Bar graph, 3D Line graph, Candle, Scatter-plot, and Time-Series. You can also import data from an excel spreadsheet. You can use this in your classroom by creating your own graph for tests or assignments. You can also assign your students to create their own while doing a research project, teaching them how to create a graph with technology, or to show data averages and scores of the class on tests or assignments.

2. Museum Box- Museum Box is a tool that helps give presentations in a fun and interactive way. It starts you out with 8 boxes and if you click one of those 8 boxes it gives you 6 more boxes to put information on. You could have up to 48 or more boxes to put information on. This also lets you embed images and videos into the boxes. My students could make a museum box to talk about a famous scientist or a major scientific breakthrough. This museum box would let them have as many pictures, videos, or information they want.

3. DivShareDivShare is a media delivery system that allows you to upload documents, save, and share them. You can keep up to 5 gigs online. You are able to store videos, photos, music, and document files. Students can upload their work to this website if they don't have a flash drive on hand. It allows their documents to be saved, and they can log-in on another computer to complete the work and access what they have so far.

4. Lulu Jr- Lulu Jr. allows students to create and publish their own book. They can also order copies for the class. The students could even become award-winning authors. The students could use this to make a book about any science topic that we have studied so far. We could then print the books and read them aloud in class.

5. QuizRevolution: This website allows you to create your own quiz or survey. You can add content and customize your own information. It can be on any topic to help keep the audience engaged. Teachers can use this resource for one question polls or quizzes. They may use this for bellwork or to answer a question about a story that they read for an assignment. It may also provide feedback from the students on how hard they think the material is.

6. Braingle: This site has fun free brain teasers, puzzles, riddles for kids to do. This site will help students get their brain working and ready for the lessons you prepare to teach. I think that this will be a fun way for students to build a  healthy competition between their classmates.

7. eQuizzer- eQuizzer allows you to create quizzes and test easily. It also allows you to monitor your students' scores. I could use this to make quizzes online and give them to my students. Also my students could make quizzes based on some of the questions they are having trouble with then we could go over them in class.

8. Tux PaintDrawing program for children ages 3 to 12. It combines an easy-to-use interface, fun sound effects, and an encouraging cartoon mascot who guides children as they use the program. Kids are presented with a blank canvas and a variety of drawing tools to help them be creative. This could be used in the classroom because it gives creativity opportunities for students to design drawings.

9.  SchoolWAX TV is a useful tool that enables teachers to create accounts and upload or link videos. All videos on this site are educational. This is a free online tool that students can use at their own leisure. Students can use this tool if they are struggling with homework and need additional assistance to complete an assignment. Teachers can dictate which videos they want their students to see and can direct them to this site if they need clarification on a topic.

10. Bubbl.us: This website helps create brainstorming bubbles that help get your ideas downs. This website also has the capability to save and print off your bubbles to take anywhere. If I were to assign a research paper on WW2 leaders, I would have my students start on this website. It's, and easy way to have all your ideas in one spot, to get them down quickly, and this website helps it look better. This will help me be able to read the kids handwriting because it's typed and helps my students read their handwriting later.

8 TIME MANAGEMENT TIPS FOR ADULT COLLEGE STUDENTS

A successful college student is someone who knows how to manage their most critical resource – time. Here are 8 time management strategies to help adult learners like you fit college into your life:

1 - Establish priorities

Not all tasks are essential. Make a prioritized list. Some tasks can wait. Some tasks can be delegated. Some tasks can be tossed.

2 - Know yourself
Schedule highest priority tasks when you do your best work. Morning person or night owl – know who you are.

3 - Sleep. Be Healthy
Stress reduces performance, as does lack of sleep. Be sure to get enough of both. Also, try walking or stretching between study activities to help clear your mind and reset your brain for new information.

4 - Build in flexibility
An adult learner needs a flexible mindset and a flexible schedule. Build slack into your schedule to help manage unforeseen obstacles. Life happens. Plan accordingly.

5 - Let the little things add up
Don’t wait for big chunks of time to get things done. Whether touching base with an academic advisor, editing a paper, reviewing notes, or reading a few pages of required reading – small things can be accomplished in the spaces between other commitments.

6 - Know when it’s survival time
Midterms and finals are not a time for moderation. Non-essentials should fall to the wayside as you prepare yourself for these important tests. Let your friends and family know finals are coming so they can give you the space you need.

7 - Know when it’s celebration time
Celebrate milestones. Acknowledge a job well done. Give yourself and others permission to be proud of your hard work – and mark the progression towards your degree.

8 - Compromise
At times, there will not be enough time to get things done the way you want. When those times happen, trade in excellence for efficiency. Sometimes, good enough has to be good enough.

Earning a college degree is a cumulative process. If you develop good time management habits early on – you’ll be able to reward yourself with a college degree sooner, rather than later.

Social Network

The Impact of Social Media on Children, Adolescents, and Families

http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/127/4/800.full

Engaging in various forms of social media is a routine activity that research has shown to benefit children and adolescents by enhancing communication, social connection, and even technical skills..
Social media sites such as Facebook and MySpace offer multiple daily opportunities for connecting with friends, classmates, and people with shared interests.  Social media sites allow teens to accomplish online many of the tasks that are important to them offline: staying connected with friends and family, making new friends, sharing pictures, and exchanging ideas.

On the other hand,

Using social media becomes a risk to adolescents more often than most adults realize. Most risks fall into the following categories: peer-to-peer; inappropriate content; lack of understanding of online privacy issues; and outside influences of third-party advertising groups.

What Are the Effects of Social Media on Youth?
http://hubpages.com/technology/effects-of-social-media-on-our-youth

Within, time, the society has welcomed this media. Teenagers and young adults are the biggest users of these sites. It has been observed that these sites are impacting the lives of the youth greatly. The impacts of using these sites have both positive and negative effects on the youth.
The positive aspect of social media is that it plays a vital role in teenagers’ lives. Most youths are spending a good amount of time in these sites. The popular social media sites are Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Social media helps the user updated with the current affairs around the world, help the teenagers stay connected and interact with each other even if they are several miles away. This strengthens their relationship even if they finished school and moved to different locations they stay connected and update one another.

All About Me

Hello Bloggers, my name is Amarya Jones. I am a 19-year-old Sophomore Elementary Education major at Henderson State University.  I am originally from here Arkadelphia, AR Home of the Arkadelphia Fighting Badgers!! I always get the same questions asked to me over and over and over again. "How could someone ever live here?" "Why'd you stay at Henderson?" Truth is, I ABSOLUTELY love it here!! Growing up in the small town, has really shaped me into the woman I am today and with the help of our amazing public school system, that is one of the reasons why I wanted to be a teacher.

I wanted to become a teacher because I have always enjoyed children and I knew in my heart that I was called to impact the lives of young children. My mom is a teacher, so I've always grown up in the classroom, imitating her, wanting to be just like her. Teaching is in my blood.

There had also been many teachers who have had an enormous influence and who believed in me when I did not believe in myself. I had someone who was my second "mama" when my real mother couldn't be there. Their influences will never be forgotten, and I hope to one day I can provide that same care and motivation to make sure that all my students know that they can count on me.  There has never been doubting in my mind that teaching is the career path that I am willing to pursue my journey here at Henderson State.

I am creating this blog to help inform you guys of the importance that comes with managing different activities while you are in college whether it be from being a student-athlete,  working and going to school, or even just joining other organizations on campus that gulp all our time also.  I have two jobs and is a full-time student. Working two jobs and going to school is a huge challenge for me when it comes to time management. Organization and time management skills are key to being successful in life.
